Our History: Rural Students Learning Computer in Uganda (RSLCU)
Humble Beginnings
RSLCU’s journey began in 2015 with just 5 learners in a small dining room generously provided by Sister Jesca. We started with only three computers, one of which was donated by Jenn Bowers from California.
Growth Through Donations
In 2016, we received a significant donation of 20 used laptops from Reboot (USA). Further donations followed:
- – 2017: Computers from Amy (USA) and Ben Fletcher (USA)
- – Ongoing support from “Uganda Mission Projects” led by Mom Gail Hoffman, sponsoring graduation functions
Community Engagement
We’ve engaged with various local communities, including:
- – Schools: Trinity College Buwagi (2015-2018), Nefah Primary School (2016), Pilkington College Muguluka (2018-present)
- – School dropouts: Empowering them with computer skills
- – Teachers’ training: Workshops on AI, WordPress, and other technologies
- – Churches and local organizations
Our Impact
Through our efforts, we’ve:
- – Trained over 1000 students at Pilkington College Muguluka
- – Empowered school dropouts with computer skills
- – Equipped teachers with new technologies
- – Fostered community development through partnerships and training
RSLCU’s history demonstrates the power of collaboration, donations, and community engagement in bridging the digital divide and empowering rural students in Uganda.
